THEY TOOK THE PIGS! Screenplay Review

(from ScriptRevolution.com)

They Took the Pigs!
A man arrives on a friend’s pig farm for temporary work, and over the weekend, alien forces push them together.

“Ever wonder what Brokeback Mountain would be like, if they’d just thrown a bit of Communion style alien abduction into the mix?

Well, with They Took the Pigs!… now you can. Amazingly, Pigs combines those themes without losing the humanistic drama. It just sprinkles a bit of Sci-Fi and wry humor in.

Meet Hunter and Shine – old school friends who reunite after Hunter’s traveling itch ends, and he saunters home. Where’s home? Well, for Shine it’s the family pig farm – which he shares with cantankerous Dad, Red.

Setting new eyes on his old pal, Shine immediately invites Hunter to stay a spell. But from the get go, Red sees there’s more to the relationship of these two than the boys let on…

‘Shine throws out his arms. Hunter approaches up the driveway.

HUNTER
Shine, you beautiful beast of a man. It has been too long!

SHINE
Well quit your travelin’ and come by more!

Shine and Hunter hug.

HUNTER
It’s good to see you.

In the front window, Red gazes at his son’s extended embrace.’

Yes, there’s still-burning passion between these two…  Hunter and Shine make a point of hiding their secret from Red. A man his age would surely NOT approve. So they find alone time where they can: climbing a tree or playtime in the family Pig-Barn.

But on one excursion – while trying to corral the wandering family dog – Shine and Hunter experience an encounter. No, not THAT. A Close Encounter of the FIRST kind – flashing lights in the sky that surely must be a UFO.

And when they return… all the pigs are gone!

You read that right: Kidnapped – every single squealing one.

Now, coming out of the closet to your old-school farm father is tough enough in this world. Will Shine and Hunter be able to handle that hard work… and a porcine, family-business ending alien abduction, too?

Any director who likes their human drama served with a side order of Sci-Fi should abduct THIS short (with writer Sean Taylor’s blessing, of course!) Believe it or not, the way Pigs resolves is genuinely touching and surprisingly organic. One shouldn’t need ET to find true love… but sometimes that’s the way the universe works!”
